Tarleton's College of Science and Mathematics and Tarleton Planetarium is hosting a star party at Hunewell Ranch on March 24th from 6:30-10:00pm. All is welcomed and free!
Amateur astronomers are encouraged to bring their own telescopes, set up on special concrete slabs and share their view with others. Tarleton faculty and members of the university’s Society of Physics Students will offer tours inside the observatory.
Are you new to star parties? Do not feel intimidated, astronomy educators and amateurs only want to fuel your curiosity and not overwhelm you. There will many amatuers set up with telescopes, just go up to them and ask, "what do we have here?"
Wear warm clothes, it will be chilly in the country at night.
You will be greeted at the gate! A staff member will be at the front . They will ask you to turn off your headlights and keep your parking lights on. Do not be afraid, your eyes will become accustomed to the dark. "Red" LED flashlights are preferred.
